Highest Single-Month Selling Record of US Treasury Bonds

In December last year, overseas holders sold US$77.35 billion in US Treasury bonds which is 5.8 times that of November.

China Securities Network (Reporter Ni Wei) On the 15th of the US East, the US Treasury Department’s International Capital Flow Report (TIC) showed that in December last year, overseas holders sold US$77.35 billion in US Treasury bonds, 5.8 times that of November. More, the highest single-month selling record since January 1978 has been recorded.

The report shows that the majority of US bond holders increased their holdings in December. In December, the size of US Treasury bonds held in mainland China increased by 2.1 billion U.S. dollars to 1.1235 trillion U.S. dollars, and it was the largest overseas holder of US debt.

In December, Japan’s US debt holdings increased by 5.7 billion U.S. dollars to 1.0423 trillion U.S. dollars for two consecutive months.

In December, France’s position was reduced by 20.7 billion US dollars, and the biggest overseas holders listed in the TIC report sold the most. Among the top ten overseas holders of US Treasury bonds, only Brazil’s holdings fell in December, and the monthly holdings of $8.3 billion were reduced for four consecutive months, but the total position is still in third place. The UK increased its holdings by $14 billion in December. Belgium increased its holdings by US$12.7 billion and increased its holdings for four consecutive months.
