Twitter is testing new features for users on iOS. This feature can make it easier for users to see someone’s profile. Precisely, profile preview on iOS can show more user profiles without having to open the timeline further.
Reporting from the Engadget page , Thursday (02/14/2019), if you are part of this trial, users can view someone’s profile by hovering over @name without opening it.
Then Twitter will give you the option to follow or mute them. So you can go back to your browsing or see their full profile if you need further details.

According to Twitter, this feature is presented to find out who is involved in the user’s account. So that later users can more easily check profiles before they respond to strangers or unknowns.
